Best way to make clean Sludge from Gas Tank? - K100
Howdy Folks,I but picked up a expert looking K100 that has been garaged (not running) for years. As y'all can come across from the attached pics the gas tank needs some cleaning out. I've pulled the fuel pump and have information technology soaking in WD-forty.
Does any one have suggestions on how to clean the Sludge from the gas tank? It has the consistency of tar.

Well...... I've never seen it that bad, possibly ever. It'south corking that yous started off in this direction. I have a lot of old stuff and when I demand a tank affluent, when things are real bad I employ kerosene. Sometimes with air agitation in the form of an extended hose on a blowgun with the air regulator turned downwards. Good luck.

Could all of that gunk be the remains of the erstwhile fuel pump mounting thingy? Only curious as I've seen information technology mentioned here a few times.Good luck with the project, I'll bet it's not every bit bad every bit information technology looks...

Jusy about bet the black stuff is the remains of the fuel pump mounting ring. I concord with trying the kerosene.I'd let it sit overnight , then arouse it practiced, sit some more than. Might take a few days. But whats the bustle; it's been sitting for years anyway.

Yuch! Paint thinner or even aluminum-friendly paint remover may work. And a dainty stiff brush.

Gasahol is supposed to be able to dissolve well-nigh annihilation elastomeric. You might try it. Yech!!!!
